New Egypt Day festivities postponed

Official statement from Plumsted Township leaders.

By:
Due to the circumstances of the national tragedy that occurred this week in New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C., the New Egypt Day celebration scheduled for Saturday has been postponed.
After consultation amongst the members of the Plumsted Township Committee, Mayor Ronald Dancer, state Sen. Robert Singer and the event’s organizer Howard Nadell it was felt that re-scheduling of the event was appropriate in order to honor those who have given their lives and to show sympathy for and solidarity with those families in our area and throughout the nation who have lost family and friends.
Mayor Dancer, the Township Committee and New Egypt Day Chairman Howard Nadell want to publicly recognize the tremendous amount of work that the more than 80 local community groups, businesses and vendors have already put into the event, which was expected to attract as many as 2,500 people.
While the postponement will be an inconvenience to many who planned on attending or participating in the event, it was felt that it would be inappropriate for there to be a public celebration while the fate of so many of our fellow Americans is still uncertain.
Due to the uncertainty of events in the coming weeks, participants will be contacted directly by the organizing committee regarding a new date for the event, or its cancellation, and it is hoped that all can make every effort to join us for the occasion under more appropriate circumstances, should it be re-scheduled.
The mayor and committee are asking all residents to use this weekend as a time of reflection, mourning and prayer for those we have lost and those who are still unaccounted for. Mayor Dancer, Deputy Mayor Joe Pryzwara, Committeeman Ken Francis, Committeewoman Bonnie Quesnel, Committeewoman Ada Roberts, New Egypt Day Chairman Howard Nadell and the employees of the township of Plumsted offer their deepest sympathies and prayers to those who have been touched by these events and ask you to join them at one of the many memorial services that will be held in our community this weekend.
Those seeking further information may contact the township at (609) 758-2241 during normal business hours and the Community Development Office after hours and on weekends at (609) 758-0268.
