Putting its best foot forward Thursday night in a week of national tragedy, the Princeton Township Committee unanimously approved a $12.2 million appropriation for the new public library along with funding for deer reflectors for Rosedale Road and The Great Road.
"We all say God bless America," said Mayor Phyllis Marchand. "It seems tough, but we must all go on with business."
Ultimately, the $17.5 million library construction is expected to be paid for with $12 million in donations, a little more than $4 million from the township and the remainder from Princeton Borough, said Township Administrator James Pascale.
The communities will be reimbursed a large amount of their upfront funding.
The committee also approved a resolution appropriating $22,000 to buy two brands of deer reflectors for township roads. ARZ Media Corp. of Union will be paid $9,400 and Illinois-based Strieter Corp. will be paid $12,600.
Herb Greenberg, chairman of the Deer Management Options Task Force, said Thursday night that 6,000 feet of ARZ reflectors will be installed on The Great Road and 8,000 feet of Strieter-Lite reflectors will be placed along Rosedale Road.
The task force has recommended the township begin by installing 8½ miles of reflectors at hot spots including the two roads selected as test cases.
Aubrey Haines of the task force said the township will split the cost with corporate sponsors, and said Mr. Greenberg’s company, Caliper Management Inc. in Princeton Township, will pay $4,000.
