The 27-acre park located in Upper Freehold Township.

The Byron Johnson Recreational Field, the township’s new recreation area for baseball, soccer and other sports, is ready for seeding and the installation of irrigation equipment. But Deputy Mayor Bill Miscoski is still looking for contributions to support the construction of the park.
The 27-acre park will be a hub for athletic activity and pastoral relaxation, Mr. Miscoski said. It will include three baseball fields, three soccer fields, tennis, basketball and bocce courts, a picnic area, tot lots and parking. There will be walking trails, as well.
The land for the park was received from Monmouth County as a way of preserving open space and giving the township well-needed recreational space. K. Hovnanian Companies, builders of the Heritage Green and Four Seasons at Upper Freehold communities was required through approvals for the first $600,000 and some donated professional services to get things started. Other local corporations and resident have made contributions toward the $1.5 million needed to pay for the project.
Tax deductible contributions for the Byron Johnson Recreational Field can be sent to the Friends of Upper Freehold. For information, call Mr. Miscoski at (609) 259-2849, ext. 14.
