Letter to the editor
To the editor:
I have been fortunate enough to only witness tragedies in our country through the TV news, newspapers and other media sources. But Sept. 11 hit really close to home and has compelled me to write this in hopes of making us all aware that we should be Americans all the time.
During the times of natural disasters, bombings, and now this the most horrific tragedy of my time, there is always something that has stood out to me. It has been written and reported how the American people come together during these times. But why is it only then? I see how people of all walks of life are working together, helping one another, praying together and loving one another. Why only now?
I went to a local deli for lunch the other day, and was asked by the clerk how myself and family were during this terrible time. I was touched by this, but my next thought was why am I not asked this every day?
I watch my 4-and-a-half-year-old son at school and at the playgrounds with other children. He does not see race, religion, rich or poor. He only sees other children. I think we can and should learn this lesson from our children. They are our true Americans.
I think if we worked and lived together in this country as we do when there are tragedies, this country would be an even better, stronger America.
Sept. 11, 2001 has changes the lives of all Americans now let’s be Americans all the time.
My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the United States. God bless.
