Library, Legion hearing on agenda

The Princeton Borough Council is expected to continue discussion tonight of an ordinance to provide funding for the new Princeton Public Library.
The council held a public hearing on the ordinance last week but tabled the vote, giving council members an opportunity to review a memo by Princeton Township Attorney Edwin Schmierer outlining how payments will be made.
Also, the council has scheduled a hearing on liquor license violations at the Charles W. Robinson American Legion Post 218 on Lytle Street.
Following incidents in May 2000 in which 10 people, including then-American Legion Vice Commander Roger Madden, were charged with dealing drugs in and around the American Legion Post, the post was charged with two counts each of allowing an illegal activity and allowing narcotic activity on the premises with the knowledge of the licensee.
The post was also charged with four counts of selling, serving and delivering alcoholic beverages to non-members of the club.
If found guilty of the charges, the post’s license could be suspended or revoked.
John F. McCarthy III, the attorney for the post, entered a plea of not guilty and is seeking a one-month adjournment of the hearing due to receiving notice of the specific charges Sept. 14.
Members of Post 218 asked the Princeton Borough Council for a postponement in August in order to retain an attorney.
The council rescheduled the hearing to Sept. 25 and Mayor Marvin Reed said that would be the last extension.
