CHESTERFIELD Volunteer firefighters here want to donate all proceeds from their annual chicken barbecue this Sunday to the families of New York City firefighters who were killed in the World Trade Center disaster.
All proceeds will be donated to the Uniformed Firefighters Associations’ Widows and Children Fund in New York City.
The Chesterfield Hose Company hopes to attract as many as 2,000 people to the popular cook-out this weekend.
"Everybody wants to help," said Deputy Mayor Larry Durr, who is a volunteer with the fire company. "You do what you can, and we know how to cook chicken."
Chicken, fresh sweet corn, tomatoes, potato salad, rolls and dessert will be available for eat-in or take-out orders at $10 a plate.
Additional donations are welcome on the day of the barbecue as well, but all proceeds will go to the New York firefighters’ fund.
Chesterfield Hose Company has held annual barbecues for the past 30 years, said Mr. Durr.
The barbecue will be held at the Chesterfield Hose Company firehouse on Route 528 from noon until they sell out.
They normally sell out by 4 p.m., so attendees are urged to arrive before 3 p.m., he said.
Dinners are $10 for adults, $5 for children. All take-outs are $10 each.
Volunteers are still needed to assist with serving and cleaning up.
To volunteer or for more information call Larry Durr, 298-7874, or Caryn Hoyer, 298-8329.
