David L. Bunn |
The South Brunswick Police Department is looking for information that could lead them to two men suspected of committing sexual assaults in separate incidents.
Police suspect David L. Bunn of attempted burglary and sexual assault of a local woman in August and a second, unidentified white male in an incident on Sunday in which he is alleged to have sexually assaulted a local woman.
"We want to make the photo and sketch public so if anyone is familiar with them, they can provide us with information," said police Public Information Officer Jim Ryan.
Police believe that Mr. Bunn, a 19-year-old black male, broke into a townhouse in Nassau Square off Route 27 in Kendall Park and attempted to force himself on a 53-year-old woman. Mr. Bunn is described as approximately 5 feet, 6 inches in height and weighing 175 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes and a medium build. Police have issued a warrant for his arrest on burglary and attempted sexual assault charges.
Police said that when the woman woke up at 5 a.m., she observed a naked man standing at the foot of her bed. The suspect, thought to be Mr. Bunn, "grabbed her arm and told her he wanted to have sex with her," according to police.
Police said she was able to stop the assault by convincing the suspect that medical problems made it impossible for her to have sex, which caused the suspect to flee the residence.
Mr. Bunn’s identity was ascertained with help from the State Police by identifying a fingerprint print taken from the scene. Mr. Bunn has had several addresses including Lafayette Street in Rahway and Hudson Way in Sayreville and has also been known to stay at the South Brunswick Manor on Route 1 during the summer months.
Officer Ryan said he believes Mr. Bunn has strong local ties and believes he is still in the central New Jersey area.
"He’s got to be local because of limited resources," Officer Ryan said. "We can prove there’s a connection between the suspect and the area of the incident."
Bail has been set at $50,000 dollars. Anyone with information about Bunn’s whereabouts is being urged by police to call Detective Ed George at (732) 329-4000 ext. 496.
"We believe, with the public’s help, we’ll get information on him," said Officer Ryan.

The department also is investigating a reported sexual assault that took place on Sunday night.
According to police, a 30-year-old South Brunswick woman went to The Medical Center at Princeton at 11 p.m. for treatment after she was assaulted.
According to the victim, a man she had recently met sexually assaulted her while they were at his residence at an undisclosed townhouse/apartment complex located on Route 27.
"She recently met this individual and wasn’t really familiar with where his address actually was," Officer Ryan said. "We’re trying to piece together what she recalls and what may look familiar."
Officer Ryan said the investigation has been slow-going because the traumatic effect that incident has had on the victim.
The victim said she was just talking with him when he began to make sexual advances, which she refused, according to police. The suspect then allegedly forced the woman down and sexually assaulted her. The victim proceeded directly to Princeton for treatment.
Police have developed a composite sketch of the suspect. He is described as a white male in his 30s, with long, past shoulder-length hair and a mustache.
Anyone with information regarding the suspect or the investigation should call Detective Don Varga or Detective John Klemas at (732) 329-4000, ext. 469.
