The Allentown United U11 travel soccer team faced their toughest opponent yet this past Saturday. They played the very tough and talented Lakewood Lazers. The game was played at an extremely high pace throughout and was a very physical match. The Lazers jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the first half off a scramble in front of the net. The United settled down and began to apply pressure. Matt Frein scored to tie the game for Allentown with a tremendous effort from his striker position. The game remained tied with the flow going back and forth late into the second half. Both teams had several good scoring opportunities but the goalies for each team made several tough saves. Alex Fortsch played exceptional in the nets for Allentown. He stopped several point blank shots to thwart the Lazers. Meanwhile Allentown used their speed advantage to move the ball well and create numerous scoring opportunities. Danny Santos, Danny Bailey and Dylan Vaughan played extremely well in the midfield for the United. Kevin Bux anchored the back line for Allentown and Haley Wilhelm played a strong all around game as well. With only seconds left in the game Haley pressed up from her back line position and took a long hard shot which she placed over the Lazers goalie’s head to score the winning goal for Allentown in dramatic fashion. The game ended seconds later and kept the United’s undefeated streak intact. Allentown will face the undefeated Pinelands Wildcats this Saturday at 9 a.m. in a critical early season match-up.
