When will the council learn?
The North Brunswick Township Council may have to pay the piper.
The Otken family and U.S. Home is seeking to be repaid for legal expenses arising from the dismissal of the condemnation action on Sept. 10.
The family and company are seeking some $40,000 in legal fees for the action.
Just last week, council members said that they will likely continue with another attempt to take the land.
If the judge allows the family and company to recover these fees, it will be yet another expense without anything gained.
It is time now to take a serious look at just how much proceeding with this attempt is worth. This is not a small amount of money to the taxpayers.
We still feel that this is not the way for a town to gain open space.
If the township is ordered to ante up these fees, it is yet another good reason to let it go.
