The West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional Board of Education approved Michael Welborn, currently an assistant principal at the Upper Elementary School, to become the principal of the J.V.B. Wicoff School in April 2002.
The board’s decision Tuesday is part of a shift of administrators that will take place when the Town Center Elementary School opens in September 2002.
Mr. Welborn will replace Brian Stevens as the principal of the Wicoff School.
Mr. Stevens will become the principal at the Village School, where he is replacing Marilyn Hynes. Ms. Hynes will become the principal of the new Town Center Elementary School.
Mr. Welborn started out in the district as a teacher and has been with the district for 14 years, said Gerri Hutner, district spokeswoman.
Mr. Welborn began his administrative career in 1995, when he was appointed to serve as a part-time assistant principal at the Upper Elementary School. For the following two years, he split his time as an assistant principal between the Upper Elementary School and the Wicoff School. Since the 1998-1999 school year, he has served on a full-time basis at the Upper Elementary School.
"This is a great decision because he is really well-loved," Ms. Hutner said.
