Ernestine H. Craig, Eunice Terry Birch, Edward L. Scavella Sr., Lillian L. Monahan, Dr. Norman J. Nicastro, David T. Zing, Jane A. Bahadurian

   Ernestine H. Craig of Princeton Township died Sept. 25 at The Medical Center at Princeton. She was 76.
   Born in Chicago, she lived in Princeton more than 70 years.
   She graduated from Princeton High School and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Princeton, where she was a member of the financial committee. She was an honorary past commandress of Khufu CT 118 and Daughters of Isis, PHA.
   Daughter of the late Ernest Hill and Rosella Holmes, daughter of late stepfather Raymond Holmes and wife of the late Royal Craig, she is survived by son and daughter-in-law Robert and Clorinda Craig of Burlington; daughters Sharon Y. Craig and Racquel E. Brewer of South Brunswick; sister and brother-in-law Olga and Charles Greene of Princeton; stepsisters Janice and Cynthia Hill of California; grandchildren Dionne, Jamel and Peyton Craig and Bryant and Samantha Brewer; great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
   The funeral was Saturday. Burial was in Princeton Cemetery.
   Arrangements were by Hughes Funeral Home in Trenton.
Eunice Terry Birch
   Eunice Terry Birch died Friday at The Medical Center at Princeton. She was 91.
   Born in Trenton, she has been a resident of Princeton for more than 62 years.
   She attended Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, Pa.
   She retired after 24 years as a secretary with the Princeton Regional Schools. She also had worked for the Office of Price Administration.
   She was an active member of the Nassau Presbyterian Church for more than 55 years, a member of the Present Day Club of Princeton and Delta Gamma of Swarthmore College.
   Daughter of the late George D. and Ida Tilton Terry and wife of the late Frank Birch, she is survived by sons George (Terry) Birch of Princeton and Wayne Birch of Cumberland, Maine; grandchildren Kevin, Kyle, Keith, Wayne and Lawrence Birch and Sharon Simmons and Vickie Bradley; and seven great-grandchildren.
   A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Ewing Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Scotch Road, Ewing Township. A memorial service is planned for a later date.
   Contributions may be made to either the Nassau Presbyterian Church, 61 Nassau St., Princeton, N.J. 08542 or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Edward L. Scavella Sr.
   Edward L. Scavella Sr. of Princeton Borough died Sept. 25.
   He was a retired Princeton University employee, and a member of Witherspoon Presbyterian Church and the Cavalier’s Club of Princeton.
   Son of the late Claude Scavella and Maude Johnson, husband of the late Altamese Minnis, he is survived by daughters Margaret Bain and Elizabeth S. Saunder; son Edward II; stepson Charles Baker and stepdaughter Elouise Leonard, both of Atlanta; sisters-in-law Catherine Reeves and Fannie Reeves Floyd, both of Princeton; brother-in-law James Floyd; and other relatives.
   The funeral will be 11 a.m. today (Tuesday) at Witherspoon Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Princeton Cemetery.

Lillian L. Monahan
   Lillian L. Monahan of Princeton died Saturday at The Medical Center at Princeton. She was 81.
   Born Lillian Schindler in Elizabeth, N.Y., she moved to Huguenot, N.Y. as a child and eventually settled in Tottenville, N.Y., graduating from Tottenville High School. She moved to Princeton in 1998.
   She was a secretary for 15 years at SS White Dental Manufacturing Company in Prince’s Bay, N.Y. and then the Nassau Smelting Refinery Co. in Richmond Valley, N.Y. She then became the senior stenographer for Community School Board 31, where she worked 12 years until retiring in 1982.
   She was known for her creative touch in making crafts and designing decorations that won her family the Holiday Door Decorating Contest Award in 1986 and 1988 in Metuchen.
   She was parishioner of Our Lady Help of Christians Roman Catholic Church in Tottenville.
   Wife of the late Timothy J. Monahan, she is survived by daughter Jeanne Kish, son Timothy J. Monahan Jr. and five grandchildren.
   Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady Help of Christians Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains, N.Y.

Dr. Norman J. Nicastro
   BURBANK, Calif. — Dr. Norman J. Nicastro died Tuesday at his home. He was 66.
   He was a retired surgeon and physician of ophthalmology.
   Born in Trenton, he had his medical offices in Mercerville and was a resident of Princeton before relocating his family and practice to Scottsdale, Ariz. in 1978.
   He graduated from Trenton Catholic Boys High School and received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. Dr. Nicastro completed his post graduate studies in ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School in Philadelphia and his residency at the former Newark Eye and Ear Institute, now the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and was board certified in 1967. He was an instructor and consultant of this specialty at Thomas Jefferson University Medical College in Philadelphia from 1972 to 1977.
   He was a member of the American Medical Association, The American Academy of Ophthalmology and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. While residing in Arizona, he was an associate with the Barnett Dulaney Perkins Eye Center in Phoenix and Sun City, and volunteered his services monthly to treat native Americans who lived in tribes in the outlying areas.
   He wrote and did extensive research in many areas of medicine and his articles appeared in various medical journals. He designed and received a patent in 1981 for an eye guard band to protect the eyes from injury during racquetball play.
   He was on the staff at St. Francis Medical Center, where he also completed his internship; the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton; and the former Donnelly Hospital and Home for the Aged, now the Mercer County Geriatric Center.
   He was a member of the Trenton Club and the Trenton Country Club and also served as president of the Trenton Downtown YMCA and was elected as a member of the National Council of YMCAs. He also was a member of the New Jersey National Guard.
   Son of the late Marius B. and Ilva Corsalini Nicastro, husband of late wife the former Carole R. Guarino, he is survived by daughter Beth Ann Nicastro of Phoenix; daughters and sons-in-law Michelle Nicastro and Steven Stark of Toluca Lake, Calif., and Kristin Nicastro and Michael Gannon of Burbank; grandchildren Callie Christian, Abby Rose, Cady Caroline and Lucas; brother Anthony J. of Hamilton Township; father-in-law Carl Guarino of Mercerville; and other relatives.
   Funeral services were in California.

David T. Zing
   PLAINSBORO — David T. Zing died Sept. 22 from injuries sustained in a car accident in Oswego, N.Y. He was 40.
   Born in Taipei, Taiwan, he came to the United States in 1974 at the age of 13 and was a resident of Plainsboro since 1986.
   He was vice president of Sina.com since 1997. Previously he worked for Squibb Pharmaceutical Co. in Lawrence as a financial analyst and for Recruit USA and as a vice president until 1997.
   He graduated from Hightstown High School in 1978 and received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Northwestern University and a master’s degree from Kellogg Graduate School of Management. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity at Northwestern.
   He was treasurer of the Plainsboro Republican Club for many years and was president of the Central Jersey Chinese American Association in 1995.
   He enjoyed arts, reading, listening to jazz, traveling and hiking.
   He is survived by his wife, Jean Chen Zing of Plainsboro; mother Jean Nee Zing of Jamaica, N.Y.; father Yu-Chong Zing of Los Angeles; and other relatives in the United States, China and Taiwan.
   The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at A.S. Cole Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Cranbury.
   Cremation will follow at Ewing Crematory.
   A scholarship fund in his memory will be established at a later date.
Jane A. Bahadurian
   ROCKY HILL — Jane A. Bahadurian died Wednesday at The Medical Center at Princeton. She was 80.
   Born in Princeton, she was a Rocky Hill resident for 37 years.
   She worked at Educational Testing Service as a financial-aid administrator for eight years, retiring in 1987.
   She was a volunteer gray lady at the New Jersey Neuropsychiatric Institute in Montgomery and was a volunteer for Literacy Volunteers of America for several years.
   Mother of the late Leslie G. Stahl, sister of the late Robert DeGiovanni, she is survived by her husband, Samuel Bahadurian; son Mark Bahadurian of Princeton; daughter Faith Bahadurian of West Windsor; brother Alex DeGiovanni of Lilliwaup, Wash.; and grandchildren Patrick and Arica Stahl.
