WEST WINDSOR Two members of the township’s Division of Emergency Services were honored at a luncheon Monday by the West Windsor Volunteer Fire Company for their roles in the search and rescue effort at the former site of the World Trade Center.
Lt. Michael McMahon and Specialist Erik Eitel worked at the site for ten days as part of a statewide team.
About 30 people gathered Monday at the West Windsor Volunteer Fire Company building on South Mill Road to welcome the firemen home.
The firehouse was decorated with posters made by children from the Maurice Hawk School and the firemen were presented with individual thank-you letters written by local school children.
Gary Tindall, chief of the West Windsor Volunteer Fire Company, and Jim Yates, township director of emergency services, thanked the firemen for their efforts and talked about how the World Trade Center disaster has brought firefighters and others together.
"Everyone feels a new sense of patriotism and brotherhood across the country, whether they’re a volunteer or career firefighters," Chief Tindall said.
