To the editor
After the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, I wrote this poem:
After this brutal attack on the red, white, and blue
To all who are near and dear we must say "I love you"
You never know when the end is near
Those are the last words your loved ones should hear
Oh dear God can you tell us why
This cruel act of terrorism came from the sky
Why did so many innocent people have to die
Why oh why? Can you tell us why?
Here we are in the "land of the free" and the "home of the brave"
But so many innocent people have gone to their grave
Again I have to ask you why
Why did so many innocent people have to die?
You never know which day will be your last
This awful act of terrorism has created bonds so steadfast
Strangers have bonded together to find their loved ones
They are looking for mothers, fathers, daughters, and sons
The senseless killing of such a large mass
The smoke filling the air and all the broken glass
The sight of the horror of the crumbled burned buildings
Will mark our memories forever with these senseless killings
Dear God please bring a sense of understanding and peace
To all of the mourners until their search does cease
The wind, the dust, the unsafe air
Why oh why did all of these people have to die there?
Dear God please help us to understand
This cruel and angry attack on our land
Please help us as we defend our flag with honor today
Please help us discover those traitors who our country did betray
And now Dear God as I say "adieu"
Please do know that I love and believe in you
