HOWELL — As a show of patriotism representatives of the Point O’Woods Condominium Association are announcing a relaxation, for the present time, of a ban against residents flying flags.
Resident Gwendolyn Ackerman said she and several of her neighbors were told last week by the association’s maintenance man that flying any flag, including Old Glory, was still prohibited.
Sal Caso, property manager for the condominium association, told Greater Media Newspapers this is not the case and insists a misunderstanding has arisen.
Caso said, therefore, that in order to stem any rumors that will make it seem like the association is anything but solidly behind the display of the American flag, he will not only be contacting all residents by mail in order to inform them of the relaxed policy, he will be "encouraging them to fly the flag" and will provide written instructions for proper flag-flying etiquette.
Caso said he was in Europe on his honeymoon on Sept. 11, the day of the terrorist attack on the United States.
He said he was so upset by the attacks that he felt compelled to be able to participate in the country’s rallying and support so he called the association in order to ensure that "people would be allowed to express their patriotism with the broadest possible latitude" by suspending the ban on flag flying.
