Hopewell Valley Regional School District
The Hopewell Valley Regional School District will begin an assessment of the K-12 mathematics program as part of its regularly scheduled five-year curriculum program review.
The state requires all school districts to conduct curriculum reviews on a five-year cycle. The K-12 social studies and six-12 practical arts and industrial technology programs are in the second year of review by the district.
The K-12 Mathematics Program Review Committee consists of parents, staff and community members. The committee will form three separate task committees for elementary, middle and high school mathematics. The Hopewell Valley Regional Board of Education’s Curriculum Committee and the district’s Curriculum Council, a group of staff members from different schools, will oversee the work of the review committee.
The K-12 Mathematics Program Review Committee will: Analyze the Mathematics Curriculum Program’s current goals, priorities, content, skills, methods, materials and assessments to determine program strengths and weaknesses;
Review current literature and research in mathematics and, if appropriate, identify and arrange visits to schools with exemplary programs;
Review the state core curriculum content standards and assure that the district’s program is aligned with them;
Ensure that the curriculum integrates workplace readiness;
Develop a program that aligns to the state standards, establishes a coherent, relevant curriculum that reduces redundancy, addresses diversity and focuses on building deep understanding of mathematical concepts;
And make all recommendations as appropriate to improve and enhance the program.
Any community members with questions about the review can call Assistant Superintendent Dr. Carol Roche, at 737-0176.
