At the recommendation of the borough’s auditor, Pennington Council voted unanimously Monday night in favor of a resolution under which a 6 percent year-end penalty will be charged to borough property owners who are over $10,000 in arrears on property tax payments.
The 6 percent rate is stipulated by state law, borough administrator Karen Waldron said.
ALSO at Monday night’s meeting, Councilwoman Nancy Ross said there will be several vacancies on the borough’s library board as of Jan. 1. She asked any residents interested in filling one of them to contact Mayor Jim Loper.
Ms. Ross also thanked Kurt Pedersen, of the borough’s Parks and Recreation Commission, "for hanging new American flags along Main Street and Delaware Avenue after Sept. 11."
Ken Baker, councilman in charge of public safety, reported that borough police made 150 motor vehicle stops in September, issuing 77 traffic summonses and 37 parking summonses.
Robert Di Falco, councilman in charge of public works, said residents who want leaves picked up by public works crews should put them "in long rows at curbside." The leaves should not contain brush or cuttings, he said. Brush or cuttings will not be picked up by public works.
Mr. Di Falco added that the borough’s water system will be checked for leaks, between the hours of 1 a.m. and 5 a.m., periodically this month and next month.
