The annual High Riders Cycle Tour will be held starting with registration at 8 a.m. at the Cream Ridge Winery on Route 539 in Upper Freehold. Choose from the 10-, 30-, or 62-mile routes. Rest stops will provide food and beverages along the way. Riders can depart any time between 9 and 11 a.m. All pre-registered entrants will receive a free T-shirt. Registration is $30.
Proceeds benefit the Handicapped High Riders, which provides therapeutic horseback riding for the physically and mentally disabled. For more information, call 259-3884.
The "Girls Who Care" club of Robbinsville will be constructing a peace chain dedicated to the victims, families and rescue workers of the Sept. 11 tragedy.
Children who would like to contribute a link should cut out an 11-by-2-inch piece of colored construction paper, decorate it with a peaceful motif and sign his or her name. The links can be dropped in the box at the Girl Scouts soccer concession stand from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 6 at Washington Township Community Park.
The club will assemble the chain and place it on public display as a visual reminder that we are all connected and united for peace.
The Millstone Heritage Council is hosting an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to celebrate the finished restoration project of the Clarksburg Methodist Church building located at 512 Stagecoach Road (Route 524), Clarksburg.
The Yardville Presbyterian Women will sponsor their eighth annual fall craft show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Yardville Presbyterian Church, corner of South Broad Street and Yardville-Hamilton Square Road. The show will feature crafts, home baked goods, food, beverages, and a Trinkets and Treasures/White Elephant table.
Washington Township is sponsoring its seventh annual rummage sale on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Sunday, clothing is $1 per bag and other items are half price. Proceeds benefit Washington Township Meals on Wheels. Those who can donate items can drop them off at the Washington Township Senior Center (adjacent to the Washington Township Branch of the Mercer County Library), weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., or call Susan Molnar or Renee Burns at 259-1125.
Landscape designer Dolph Guerds of Ostrich Nursery will be at the Washington Branch of the Mercer County Library from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, and from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, with a series of gardening programs. The Monmouth County Park System will host Walnford Day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Historic Walnford, Crosswicks Creek Park, Upper Freehold. Tuesday, Oct. 9
Dr. Charles Ryerson, retired professor of ecumenics and church history from Princeton Theological Seminary, will present a lecture and discussion on "Christianity, World Religions and Fundamentalism," 7:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall at Allentown Presbyterian Church, High Street (Route 539).
The talk will help educate the community about the motivation behind the recent attacks and lead to a deeper understanding of the dynamics between Christianity, Islam and other religions. Dr. Ryerson has lived in India and traveled the world extensively. All member of the community are invited to attend.
Wednesday, Oct. 10
The Allentown Public Library Association will have a special Board of Trustees meeting, 7:30 p.m. at the library. Historical architect, Michael Calafat, will be discussing the upcoming restoration project. The public is invited to see the construction plans and hear about the changes taking place at the library.
Thursday, Oct. 11
The Allentown Garden Club meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Allentown Methodist Church on Church Street, Allentown. Members will create wreaths out of amaranth that can be hung inside or outside for the birds in winter. Pre-registration is not necessary. The public is welcome to attend. Bring $10-$12 cash for materials, a pruner or scissors, and an interchangeable tip screwdriver. Extra screwdrivers will be on hand for participants who don’t have their own.

Friday, Oct. 12
The Allentown Lions Club is holding its annual golf tournament at Gambler Ridge Golf Course in Cream Ridge. This is a memorial tournament to honor C. Edward "Pop" Rockhill, a loyal and dedicated member of the Lions Club. Support of the golf outing will enable the club to provide many community projects.

Saturday, Oct. 13
Registration for the eighth annual Tomm May 5K run and nature trail fun walk is from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. at Tantum Park, Meadowbrook Road, Robbinsville. The nature trail fun walk begins at 9:30 a.m. and the 5K run begins at 10 a.m. Registration for the run is $15 on the day of the run or $12 if payment is received before Oct. 11.
