A township resident was left with serious injuries after a Wednesday morning car accident at her home.
Sucheta Kenny, 42, of Lehigh Drive in the Highgate Manor development in Kendall Park, was admitted to the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Though she is currently in stable condition according to a hospital staff member, no other information about her injuries or condition has been released.
At 11:25 a.m., Ms. Kenny had just pulled into her driveway on Lehigh Drive when she left her 1993 Dodge Caravan running on the inclined driveway to quickly answer the phone inside her home, according to police.
When Ms. Kenny came out of the home and opened the passenger’s door, the van began to roll backwards. Ms. Kenny then jumped across the front seat trying to put her hand on the brake but inadvertently hit the gas pedal causing the van to accelerate up the driveway, police said. When she stepped off the gas, the van rolled backwards again at which time Ms. Kenny fell under the van, was run over, then dragged across the street to the front lawn of the neighbor. She was able to free herself from the van and have someone call 911.
Officers found Ms. Kenny awake and alert, police said. The Monmouth Junction First Aid Squad found her awake and alert at the scene. Paramedics immediately transported her to the hospital because she was suffering from what appeared to be serious internal injuries.
