Volunteers needed
Volunteers are needed to help assemble playground equipment on Saturday, Oct. 13 and Sunday, Oct. 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day at Second Street Park, located at the corner of Second and Park streets. Oyster dinner
The Bordentown Chapter 257, Order of the Easter Star, will be serving a fried oyster and chicken salad dinner from 3 to 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Masonic Temple, 121 Farnsworth Avenue. Anniversary celebration
The Shiloh Baptist Church of Bordentown will celebrate Pastor G.L. Coleman Jr.’s 27th anniversary with a dinner at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 14. The public is invited.
EMS clean-up
The Springfield Township EMS is having a clean-up at their new facility, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 21, at 7 Jobstown-Juliustown Road, Jobstown. Inside and outside work, rain or shine. Lunch and drinks will be provided. Call Dick Toone to sign up, 261-3415.
All you can eat breakfast
The Holy Name Society of Holy Assumption Parish in Roebling is hosting its all you can eat breakfast from 8 to 11:30 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 21, at McGrath Hall adjacent to the school. Menu includes eggs, home fries, sausage, pancakes, orange juice, coffee and rolls. Cost for adults $4, seniors 65 and older $3, children six to 12 $2, and children under five are free.
CROP walk
The annual Greater Bordentown Area CROP walk will be held Sunday, Oct. 21 starting at 2 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Bordentown. This is a 10k (6 mile) walk through historic Bordentown City, ending with refreshments at the Trinity United Methodist Church. If you would like to participate in the walk as either a walker or a sponsor, please contact your local congregation or call Rev. Jay Rambo at 298-0487.
St. Mary’s trips
The Friends of St. Mary’s School will sponsor the following trips this fall that are open to the public. A trip to the Brownstone Inn in Wayne to celebrate Oktoberfest is planned for Tuesday, Oct. 23. There will be a trip to Hunterdon Hills Playhouse to see a Christmas musical show on Thursday, Nov. 1. Oyster supper
Reservations are now being accepted for the annual Hedding Methodist Church oyster supper, Saturday, Oct. 27, located at the intersection on Old York and Hedding-Kinkora Roads in Mansfield Township. Seatings will start at 3 p.m. and continue every half hour until 7:30 p.m. Price for adults is $17 and $8 for children under 12. Reservations must be made in advance by calling Claudia Teal, (609) 324-0729. The church bazaar will be held in the basement with a variety of handmade items and baked goods for sale.
Testimonial dinner
A testimonial dinner honoring Captain Francis Lee for his many years of service with the Bordentown City Police Department is planned for 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 28, at the Days Inn, Bordentown. Tickets are available by contacting Sgt. Steve Mains, Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., 298-0103. Tickets are $25 per person, buffet style dinner.
Halloween parade
The Consolidated Fire Association will sponsor the annual Halloween parade beginning at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 28. Rain date is Nov. 4. Area businesses, groups and organizations wishing to participate should contact Steve McGowan, 298-9328.
European village festival
Holy Cross Lutheran Church will hold an Old European Village market and festival from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3 located at 280 Crosswicks Road (Route 528 East), Bordentown Township. Shops representing Austria, England, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Spain will feature country-specific gift items and foods for purchase. Holiday craft show
Friends of St. Mary’s School are seeking crafters for their holiday craft show and bake sale scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10, at St. Mary’s School in Bordentown. The cost of the table is $20. Crafters interested in participating should contact Sue at (609) 324-9082.
Factory outlets trip
Burlington County Historical Society (BCHS) is sponsoring a bus trip to the Vanity Fair Factory Outlets in Reading, Pa., Thursday, Nov. 15. The bus will leave the BCHS complex at 8:30 a.m. and return at 5 p.m. Only 45 tickets are available. Deadline date for ticket purchase is Oct. 15. For more information call (609) 386-4773, Ext. 12.
MacFarland reunion
The William MacFarland High School Class of 1951 is having their 50-year reunion at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, at The Kove II, Edgewater Park. Horse and wagon rides
The Downtown Business Association announces the holiday horse and wagon rides will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, 15 and 22. Tickets are on sale at the Artful Deposit Gallery in Bordentown. Call (609) 298-6920 for times and prices.
Soccer games

Quilts for Kids
The Quilts for Kids sewing group will meets every fourth Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bordentown Presbyterian Church fellowship hall on Farnsworth Avenue. All are welcome. The group makes machine-sewn quilts for sick and abused children. Fabric is provided. Clean, pressed 100 percent cotton fabric, crib size batting and thread donations accepted. Bring your own machine.
Hall of Fame
Nominations for the 2001-2002 Bordentown Regional High School Hall of Fame are currently being accepted. The Silver Tongues chapter of Toastmasters meets at 7 p.m. the first Thursday of every month at the Londonshire Restaurant, Route 130, Burlington.
