Deadline has been extended
Hopewell Valley residents are invited to submit their favorite photographs of scenic vistas in the valley to the Hopewell Valley Vistas Photo Contest. The deadline for submissions has been extended to Nov. 5.
Entry forms and additional information may be obtained by calling 737-0605 or the front desk at the Hopewell Township Municipal Building. Forms may also be found at Pennington Borough and Hopewell Borough halls; Photo Haven on Route 31; the Mercer County library Hopewell Township branch; and the three valley post offices.
"Hopewell Valley is beautiful. Let’s celebrate it," said Mayor Marylou Ferrara, who is also a member of the township Planning Board.
The contest is sponsored by the Township Committee and the Planning Board. The locations of the scenic vistas will be incorporated into township land-use maps and assist the planning board in its ongoing work to update the township’s master plan.
The intent of this contest is to capture scenic vistas for planning and public-awareness purposes. In addition to cash prizes, the winning photographs will be part of an educational, traveling exhibit and will be printed in the 2002 Hopewell Township calendar.
Photographs may have been taken at any time until the deadline. Photographers must note the approximate date on an entry form, along with identifying the location where the photograph was taken.
There are two categories: color and black-and-white.
There are two age categories: Junior – ages up to 17; and Adult – ages 17 and above.
Each person is eligible to submit a maximum of three entries.
Only residents of Hopewell Township, Hopewell Borough and Pennington Borough are eligible to participate.
There must be a separate entry form for each photo.
Photographs must be submitted as 8-by-10-inch prints. Winning entries will need to be enlarged for display to 11-by-14 inches.
Photographs submitted for consideration may contain buildings or other man-made structures, but should not dominate the photograph. The intent is to depict the natural landscape and conditions.
The prizes are: $200 for first place color; $200 for first place black and white; $100 for second place color; $100 for second place black and white; $50 for third place color; $50 for third place black and white.
In addition to the monetary prizes listed above, all winners’ photographs will be published in the Hopewell Township calendar for the year 2002.
All winners’ photographs will be the joint property of the photographer and Hopewell Township. Winners’ photographs may be used at the discretion of Hopewell Township officials without prior consent of the photographer in the following limited ways: public presentations by the Hopewell Township Committee, Hopewell Township Planning Board and/or other township boards, committees and commissions, and in the mapping (either electronically or otherwise such as hard copy) of scenic vistas for land-use planning purposes by Hopewell Township. As such, they may be used in public presentations and publicity to educate area citizens about the scenic beauty of these vistas and the need to preserve them.
These photographs will be used in a traveling exhibit, which will be displayed through the Hopewell Valley and Mercer County area, at various public showings and solely for educational or enjoyment purposes. Possible exhibit locations include the Hopewell Township Municipal Building, the Mercer County Library’s Hopewell Township Branch, and various public and private buildings including government, school and nonprofit educational and social buildings within the Hopewell Valley.
The use of these photos is entirely within the discretion of Hopewell Township officials without prior notice to the winners. The winning images remain the property of the photographer and as such, may be used by the photographer at his or her discretion (and without notification to Hopewell Township) for submission in any other photo contest or any other purposes.
