The Cranbury Environmental Commission is looking to fill two seats on its board. Both positions are alternates.
Alternate commissioners participate fully in all proceedings of the Environmental Commission and vote whenever standing members of the commission are absent. The Environmental Commission meets the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m.
Interested Cranbury residents are invited to send a letter outlining qualifications and interest to David Nissen, chairman, in care of the Environmental Commission, 23 N. Main St. David encourages members of the community to consider serving the town on the commission.
"Not only will you learn a lot about how the town works," says David, "you’ll find it is a personally rewarding experience."

Two of Cranbury’s own, Jennifer and Bill Kanawyer, were honored last week at the Libraries of Middlesex 22nd Annual Awards Reception. Jennifer and Bill received the Library Service Award for their work with the Friends semi-annual book sales and for Bill’s technical assistance with the library’s computerization. In his nomination narrative, Howard Zogott, director of the library, noted that "From the day of my arrival as Director…Bill came up and…offered his professional knowledge and skills to the Library…. What is especially wonderful is that no matter in what non-tech language I phrase a question, Bill understands and responds…."
Jennifer’s contributions have been through the Friends of the Library, where she has volunteered since the group’s inception in 1994. She has served on the Friends’ board of trustees and as treasurer and spear-heads the group’s book sales. Again, describing her contribution, Howard said, "She not only organizes the books, but the many volunteers needed to sort, transport and sell them…. The Kanawyers have not had the use of their garage for at least four years, the space being given up to the Friends to sort books and store them between sales. The Cranbury Public Library is indebted to the Kanawyers for their commitment that has helped the Friends raise literally thousands of dollars for Library books, periodicals, furniture and programs."
Twelve Friends, staff and board members as well as the Kanawyer’s daughter, Laurel, were on hand at the Oct. 6 ceremony to honor the pair.
