Water main flushing under way
Consumers New Jersey Water Company on Oct. 9 began its annual water main flushing program in the Washington, Chesterfield and Upper Freehold township areas.
During the main flushing process, fire hydrants are opened, allowing water pressure to forcefully remove non-harmful sediment from the water mains. The six-week main flushing program is expected to run through mid-November.
Flushing will be done between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., according to Vice President and Division Manager Wes Plaisted.
Customers may experience decreased water pressure and/or some temporary discoloration, which is not harmful, during the flushing process.
"We suggest that customers run the cold water for a few minutes until it clears." Mr. Plaisted said. "Customers can also store water in advance for use during this process."
For daily, up-to-date information on specific flushing locations, customers can call 587-8222.
Consumers New Jersey is headquartered in Hamilton and serves approximately 125,000 people in 14 New Jersey municipalities in Warren, Hunterdon, Mercer, Burlington, Monmouth, Camden and Gloucester counties.
