No criminal charges for county employees in Brewer escape case

In the matter of Terence Brewer’s escape from the Mercer County Corrections Center, Mercer County Prosecutor Daniel G. Giaquinto announced Tuesday that his office will not be filing criminal charges against any county employee and the case will not be presented to a grand jury.
"Based on the information we have uncovered to date, criminal charges are not warranted," Mr. Giaquinto said. "We are referring this matter back to the county for whatever administrative action it deems appropriate."
Mr. Giaquinto said his office’s full investigative report into the circumstances that gave rise to Mr. Brewer’s escape from the county Corrections Center in Hopewell Township on Aug. 30 will be presented to the Mercer County administration and the Board of Chosen Freeholder upon its completion, which is expected in several weeks.
"Due to the public’s interest and need for finalization of this matter, we’ve taken the unusual step of informing the county administration of our decision prior to the completion of our report, " Mr. Giaquinto said.
