Plumsted needs poll workers

Township Committee asks state to reconsider earlier hours for voting.

PLUMSTED — Citing an "unnecessary burden on poll workers," the Township Committee on Monday passed a resolution urging acting Gov. Donald DiFrancesco to reconsider the state’s decision to open voting polls an hour earlier this Election Day.
Mayor Ron Dancer explained the committee’s actions by reminding the public that voting polls normally open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. statewide. This year, they will open at 6 a.m.
This, he said, would require poll workers to report for duty at 4:45 a.m., a time he suggested was unreasonable, especially because poll workers already are in short supply.
Deputy Mayor Joe Przywara said that though the $200 pay for working the polls is nice, it is a very long day. Adding another hour to it doesn’t help, he said.
Mr. Przywara asked anyone interested in working the township’s voting polls this Nov. 6 to call Township Clerk Dorothy Hendrickson at 758-2241.
