LEDGER FORUM
I applaud The Ledger’s recent headline stating that the Democrats’ campaign material cannot be supported. The story raises several questions.
Why are the Democratic candidates lying about Rick Miller’s record on open space? Is it because they have no record of their own? Is it that they don’t check and double-check their facts? If they had checked the voting record, they would have known better than to criticize Councilman Rick Miller’s record on open space. Miller, who is up for re-election to his council seat, has done more to preserve open space and farmland in Lawrence Township than any other member on council. He even hosted a fund-raiser for Carson Roads Woods at his own home that raised thousands in private donations for the successful preservation efforts.
Is it because the Democrats don’t read their own writing? The Democrats’ response to The Ledger inquiry was that they didn’t see the campaign material before it went out. How can you trust someone to govern your town if they don’t take time to read their own campaign material? If they voted against the good of the town on an ordinance or a resolution, or if a contract turned out to be more expensive than budgeted, would their excuse be that they did not have time to read it, research it and double-check it before hand? We can’t take that chance.
Too bad the Democrat candidates for Lawrence Council did not take a "Truth in Campaigning Pledge."
I’m voting for Rick Miller and Mark Holmes on Nov. 6. I hope you join me.
