Suggestions for borough streets

Letter to the editor

To the editor:
If candidates Dan Buriak and Rick Pratt would like to preserve and restore the historical values and sights of Hightstown in general, we first need to remove the signs that are posted up and down Stockton Street, and let us not forget Monmouth Street. Oh yes, do these signs meet the borough ordinances?
I would think signs pertaining to pedestrian crosswalks would be more appropriate, especially if banners were placed across the streets and cones placed in the crosswalks in the middle of the streets.
Maybe we should talk to the borough engineer, Carmela Santaniello, to ask to have speed bumps installed on all major streets in Hightstown. This would slow down the traffic going through Hightstown. Of course, that would mean not hitting the potholes left by the contractor who, according to the engineer, did such a great job of repairing the roadways after repairing our water system.
Also ask the engineer why the sidewalk stops at the first aid building and you are forced to walk in the road or to cross the street to be on a sidewalk. You can’t walk down the north side of Academy Street from Bank to Park because of the overgrowth of weeds and vegetation. I think that is another borough violation.
But don’t forget to took at the house on the comer of Bank & Academy streets, because it has been under renovation for an extensive period of time. It is the longest ongoing construction permit for renovation in the history of Hightstown. Maybe the mayor’s new committee should look into including this property to the Stockton Street historical list.
