Election forum letter
To the editor:
My recent vote of "no" on the acquisition of the GPU Energy property is just one more example of the decision-making process which I have used while serving 11 years on the Hightstown Planning Board and the last three years on the council. Every question which comes before me requires fact-finding and critical thinking. I give reasons and arguments for my decisions which have agreed and disagreed with my fellow board members. I honor debate and I respect the outcome of a majority vote when mine is the minority.
My caring, commitment and dedication to Hightstown is a lifelong trait. I have continued to represent our townspeople with honesty, integrity, fairness, rational thinking and a democratic spirit. I learned these attributes during my student days of the ’50s and early ’60s in the Hightstown school system. I continued to learn and to practice these same qualities during my teaching days from the ’60s to the ’80s in the same local schools. My children and grandchildren are protectors of this family spirit. I have modeled these attributes on the Planning Board and council. To serve my community with this spirit is a daily routine. Hightstown, a major part of my life, is a model of the American spirit and I am a small part of that spirit. Please continue to team with me to live and protect this Hightstown community spirit. Re-elect Robert F. Patten to the Hightstown council on Nov. 6.
Thank you for your continued support of the American spirit!
Bob Patten
