Judy Tiernan resigns post
as North Brunswick’s CFO
NORTH BRUNSWICK — The township’s chief financial officer, Judy Teirnan, abruptly resigned from her post during a township meeting last week.
"I am obviously very disappointed that Judy is resigning," said Mayor David Spaulding. "She has done a wonderful job and has helped much of our financial turnaround."
Business Administrator Rob Lombard will serve as the chief financial officer in the meantime, according to Spaulding.
"Rob will serve as the CFO on a temporary basis pending the hiring of a full-time replacement," Spaulding said.
Councilman Francis "Mack" Womack said he was upset that Teirnan has resigned.
"This is terrible for the township," Womack said. "I have greatly benefited from her advice over the last year. Judy is one example of an appointment that has nothing to do with a political angle. I am really sorry to see her leave."
Spaulding does not know when a full-time financial director will be hired, but he said it is a priority.
"I’m not sure when we will get this done, but I would like to get it done real soon," Spaulding said. "Judy’s resignation was very much a surprise to me. It is a township priority to fill this position as soon as we can."
Womack said that he also hopes the position will be filled soon.
"I would hope we could get a replacement by the reorganization meeting," Womack said. "I would certainly think that the assistant finance director would be able to stand in for Judy."
It will be difficult to find someone like Teirnan to fill this void, according to Womack.
"Judy was appreciated by people on both sides," Womack said. "Her leaving burdens the township. You don’t often find people of that quality. She is very kind and patient. She is instrumental and very patient in sitting down with Carlo (Socio) and me. She showed us how the municipality works. Judy is willing to help everyone."
Womack wishes there were a way that Teirnan would continue to work in the township.
"I wish there was some way she would stay in North Brunswick," Womack said. "If Judy’s not able to come back at all, I hope that the township is able to find someone like Judy who is a steady person with non-political motives who cares about the town’s needs."
Teirnan has worked as the CFO since the spring of 2000 when Suzanne Veitengruber resigned. She had previously worked as the financial director in Plainsboro. Teirnan will be taking a job as the financial director of Marlboro, according to Spaulding.
Teirnan refused to comment on her resignation, and officials in Marlboro could not say if she has been appointed to that position.
