WILLINGBORO Charles K. Purdy, 68, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Rancocas Hospital.
Born in Trenton, he was a longtime resident before moving to Willingboro in 1972.
He graduated from Trenton Central High School in 1950 and served with the Army from 1953 to 1955.
He worked with the Trenton branch of the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1986 after more than 30 years as superintendent of maintenance control.
He was a longtime member of Union Baptist Church before joining Shiloh Baptist Church, where he was a trustee and member of the finance committee.
Son of the late Pearl and John Albert Purdy, he is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ethel; a daughter, Cynthia Purdy; seven grandchildren, including Christina, Kelly, Ashley and Charles, whom he raised; two brothers, John of Lawrence and James of Heathrow, Fla.; four sisters-in-law, Jeannette Purdy of Lawrence, Dorothy Purdy of Heathrow, Evelyn Porter of Pilesgrove and Martha Jester of Hamilton; three brothers-in-law, Harold Banks of Bridgeton, James Porter of Pilesgrove and Eugene Jester of Hamilton; two stepsons, Samuel Holmes of Port Norris and Edward Holmes of Pilesgrove; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Shiloh Baptist Church, 340 Calhoun St., Trenton, with the Rev. Darrell Armstrong, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
Calling hours will be 9 a.m. until service at the church.
Arrangements are by Campbell Funeral Chapel, Trenton.
