I just wanted to publicly thank Freehold Township police officer Robert Brightman on his outstanding response to the community regarding the new traffic safety law regarding booster seats.
After reading your article (Nov. 28 News Transcript) outlining the new law, I called Lt. Brightman to voice my concerns about trying to comply with it. Not only did he promptly return my call, he invited me to bring my vehicle to the police station with my four children and try to help me work out the new boosters, the current car seats and the low-back seats of my old Suburban.
It was refreshing to know he was there to help me comply with the law and keep my children safe, and not just there to give me a ticket when I could not fit the boosters in my car. He even offered to come and speak to my mothers group about the new requirements.
I would also like to mention that Lt. Brightman was also the officer who thanked me for bringing to his attention some unsafe traffic situations a few years ago.
Once again, I thought I was in for some police officer rolling his eyes on the other end of the phone, but instead I was thanked for being the eyes and ears of the neighborhood, the problem was immediately addressed, and I was updated with a follow-up phone call.
Bottom line: Thank you, Officer Bob, for being a true public servant to Freehold Township. We are lucky to have you.
