to give ‘the gift of life’

Thousands of people responded to the call to give blood after the terrorist attacks on the United States.

However, in the subsequent months blood donations have dropped tremendously, according to a press release from the Central Jersey Blood Center. Blood supplies are low at this time of year and blood is needed for everyday emergencies such as automobile accidents, and for patients fighting cancer or in need of surgery.

Throughout December and January, all blood donors will receive a golf shirt as a thank-you gift from Central Jersey Blood Center. A special holiday blood drive will be held at the Shrewsbury facility, 494 Sycamore Ave., Dec. 26-27 from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Dec. 28-29 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. At the Howell Donor Center, 4068 Route 9 in the Howell Plaza shopping center, the special drive will be held Dec. 26-27 from 1-8 p.m., and Dec. 28-29 from 9 a.m. to noon.

For more information, call the blood center at (732) 842-5750.
