HOLMDEL — The Board of Education has appointed a new assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Dr. Maureen Lally.
Albert Mussad, who was appointed Dec. 19, will start Feb. 4.
Mussad is currently the supervisor of curriculum for the Morris school district in Morristown. He was chosen from a pool of 69 candidates.
Lally resigned to become superintendent of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District. She assumes her position Jan. 2.
"Mr. Mussad has a record of scholarship and a record of success as an academic leader," Superintendent of Schools Leigh Byron said Friday. "He will be an asset to the district."
"Mr. Mussad is one of the most impressive candidates that I have interviewed, and he will be a great asset to the school district," said Frank Pento, president of the board. "Every single person that interviewed Mr. Mussad was very impressed with him and his credentials."
During his tenure in Morristown, he assumed responsibility for the successful implementation of a $1 million federal three-year magnet schools assistance program initiative grant for a science and technology program.
Mussad will complete his dissertation for a Ph.D. in linguistics from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., in May, and he will continue his course work for a master’s degree in educational administration and supervision at Rutgers University in New Brunswick.
Prior to working in the Morris school district, Mussad was supervisor of the K-12 world languages, creative arts and science in Bound Brook.
