Fast start gives Shore boys win over Hudson
Galvin leads field
with 22 points
Sometimes a quick start is all you need to propel you to a win, and that was the case for Shore Regional High School as they got past Henry Hudson Dec. 18 in West Long Branch.
The Blue Devils jumped out to a 33-24 lead, and made that stand up, holding off the Admirals 45-33.
"We still have a lot to improve upon, but the kids have a lot of heart and want to play," said head coach Bill O’Leary.
Shore opened up the game with a 20-14 run, anchored by the athleticism of Cy Galvin, who sank a pair of treys, a bucket and two from the foul line for 10 points.
After the Blue Devils opened up the game with a bucket by Steve Bazaz, the two teams traded baskets and the lead until Galvin drained his second three-pointer with 4:18 left.
From that point on, Shore continued to find the net more consistently than their guests.
Five different players found the net in the second quarter, with Galvin sinking four points, Phil Hershkowitz three points, Bazaz, Ryan Yelton and Zack Pierce draining two points apiece.
Game play slowed down considerably in the second half, as Shore scored a total of 12 points, and the Admirals nine.
Galvin again led the field, this time mostly from the mercy stripe, hitting six of eight foul shots.
Recording Shore’s only other points from the second half was Hershkowitz.
The sophomore forward displayed his leaping abilities and he scored on a couple of pull-up jumpers.
While Galvin led all scores with 22 points, the Blue-and-Whites’ other contributors were Hershkowitz (9), Yelton (6) Bazaz (4), Tim McGuire and Pierce (2 each).
With the win, Shore evened out their record to 1-1.
