Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart senior Caroline McCarthy of Princeton has been named a semifinalist in the 2002 National Merit Scholarship program.
Less than 1 percent of the nation’s high school seniors were named semifinalists. Semifinalists have the opportunity to continue to compete for more than 7,900 Merit Scholarship awards.
Two other Stuart seniors, Mary Anne Bitetto of Ringoes and Hannah Murnen of Princeton, were named commended students in the National Merit program. Commended students placed among the top 5 percent of students who took the 2000 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
National Merit finalists will be announced in the spring, based on their high school academic record, recommendation and senior SAT scores; and a student essay, information about their participation and leadership in school and community activities.
