Another record fell at the hands of the Lawrence High School swim teams this past weekend.
This time, it was a Hornet Relays milestone that was toppled by the Cardinal girls on Saturday.
Emily Steiner, Tess Fernandez, Mary Veltri and Jenny Steiner combined to take the 4×50-meter breaststroke event in two minutes, 33.22 seconds.
That time shattered the annual Hamilton event’s old mark of 2:34.81 set nearly a decade ago by Hightstown girls in 1993.
That certainly wasn’t the only event won by the Lawrence girls squad, which three-peated at the event with a 102-point winning score.
The girls’ 102 points easily beat out the second place score of 78, belonging to Steinert. Notre Dame took third (72 points), followed by Hightstown (40), Hamilton (38) and Nottingham (22).
Jenny Steiner, Bradleigh Stearns, Kim Maciejewicz and Kerry Genese took the 4×50 backstroke in 2:16.37.
Maciejewicz, Jamie Petrone, Emily Steiner and Genese won the 4×50 free with a time of 2:01.61.
And the 4×200 freestyle team of Lauren Coleman, Sara Penrose, Veltri and Emily Bomba also won in 10:04.31.
The 400 medley team of Winthrop, Coleman, Veltri and Petrone were victorious in 4:13.42.
The 4×100 IM squad of Maciejewicz, Emily Suzuki, Kelli Hawthorne and Winthrop took the event with a time of 5:15.43.
The Lawrence girls also took second in the 4×50 fly and third in the crescendo free events.
Meanwhile, the boys barely took second to Notre Dame with a score of 82. Notre Dame finished with 88 points.
After winning the relays for much of the late-1990s, this is the second year in a row that the Cardinal boys have finished second to Notre Dame.
Nottingham boys took third with 78 points, followed by Hightstown (46), Hamilton (36) and Steinert (16).
Lawrence won three events — the 4×50 back, the 4×50 breast and the 4×50 free.
James Agnes, Ryan Price, Brian Bunn and Chris Faubell combined to win the 4×50 back in 2:07.34.
Bunn, Akira Yamamoto, Price and Faubell then teamed to take the 4×50 free in 1:51.16, while the 4×50 breaststroke squad won in 2:27.26.
The Cardinals also took second in the 400 medley and third in the 4×100 IM, 4×50 fly and 4×200 free.
The Lawrence swim teams are back in the pool today (Thursday) for a home meet against Princeton at 4 p.m. The Cardinals also host Notre Dame at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday.
