The New Jersey Press Foundation, West Trenton, has announced it is offering a $5,000 journalism scholarship, the Bernard Kilgore Memorial Scholarship. High school students must be nominated by the faculty adviser of the school newspaper, or by the editor of a local newspaper. The scholarship will be awarded to the student selected as the 2002 New Jersey High School Journalist of the Year, a competition sponsored by the press foundation and the Garden State Scholastic Press Association. Ocean County Bluegrass

Festival set for Feb. 3

The Pinelands Cultural Society is presenting its 16th Ocean County Bluegrass Festival at Albert Music Hall, 125 Wells Mills Road (Route 532), Waretown, on Feb. 3, with doors opening at 11 a.m.

The program features a live stage concert of bluegrass music. Among the performers are Joe Rizzo and Friends, Raritan River Valley Ramblers, Bennett Family, Jimmy Moore and the Blue Mountain Boys, Borderline, Past Times, Jim Murphy and the Pine Barrons, Piney Blue and the Last Whippoorwill. Admission is $8 for adults and $1 for children under age 12. The program will run from noon to 5 p.m. No alcoholic beverages or smoking will be allowed. Details: (609) 971-1593.

Parks department to

offer yoga instruction

A yoga class will be conducted by the Ocean County Parks and Recreation Department on Wednesdays, Feb. 27 through April 17. The class will run from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will be held at the beach complex of Ocean County Park, Route 88, Lakewood. The basics of Hatha yoga, featuring strength, balance and control, will be taught.

The fee is $42 per person for the eight-week class. Participants are asked to wear comfortable, loose clothing and bring a blanket. Advanced paid registration is required for this program. A completed, signed program registration application is mandatory. For more information call (732) 506-9090.

Italian American Club

offers meeting rooms

The Central Jersey Italian American Club, a nonprofit organization located on Christopher Columbus Boulevard, Jack-son, holds its meetings on the second Monday of each month at 8 p.m. The club is always looking for new members of Italian descent. The club’s Friday Night Dinners have started again. The facilities are available for general use for numerous events. Church to host ‘Women

of Destiny’ conference

Spirit-Filled Life Ministries is sponsoring the New Jersey Women of Destiny Conference, to be held on Feb. 8-9 at the First Presbyterian Church, 313 Third St. and Clifton Avenue, Lakewood. The conference will begin at 6 p.m. Feb. 8 and 9 a.m. Feb. 9. and will include a luncheon. Registration is required for this event.
