As the season winds down, the Old Bridge High School girls and boys bowling teams are looking ahead to bright futures as several promising young rollers have established themselves this season.
The girls team was 6-7-1 heading into the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament on Tuesday.
Sophomore Kim Bergamini led the way with a 172 average, including a team-high game of 268.
Junior Danielle Seratelli also holds a 172-pin average and Desiree Kennedy, one of two seniors on the team, is right behind with a 168-pin average.
Other key kegglers included senior Melissa Schulman, who averages 141 pins; junior Jessica Tuohy, who has a 130 average; and sophomores Lisa Petillo, Jennifer Ippolito and Kimberly Pernell, all of whom are hovering near the 130-pin mark.
"The girls have gotten better and better," said Coach Steve Lundquist. "Last year they were 8-8 and they’re about the same, but this team has a lot of potential."
The Knights boys team has struggled to a 4-10-2 mark despite the presence of some solid bowlers.
Freshman Brendan Vies leads the team with a 180 average and has a 612 series.
Senior Andrew Bock averages 176 pins and has a 621 series to his credit, while junior Mike DeStasio averages 172 pins and has posted a 605 series.
Seniors Nick Pelligrino and Brett McDonagh average 171 pins and 162 pins, respectively; and junior Tim Hudson has a 163 average.
Sophomore Justin Allen averages 175 pins and freshman Brian Hart averages 170 pins.
"They’ve had some outstanding individual games, but they just haven’t been able to get the team wins," Lundquist said. "Like the girls, the boys have some very talented younger bowlers who will make more of an impact next year."
