Free wood chips are now available to Plumsted residents at our branch and leaf recycling drop-off site on Magnolia Avenue on Saturday mornings as long as the supply lasts. The freshly ground wood chips consist of recycled Christmas trees and branches. The Township Committee saved the expense of purchasing a wood chipper by arranging for Ocean County to periodically bring its chipper to Plumsted as a public service.
Township Committeeman Ken Francis, liaison to our Road Department, will be meeting with Ocean County Engineering and Road Department officials today, Thursday, in Toms River to request various road and traffic safety improvements for Plumsted. Annually, Plumsted receives hundreds of thousands of dollars from the county for road, drainage and traffic safety improvements and services.
Deputy Mayor Joe Przywara has conducted a public hearing for suggestions from residents for this year’s application to obtain more Community Development Block Grant funding. Since the early 1990s, Mr. Przywara has been instrumental in obtaining more than $500,000 in grants from this program to benefit our community, which has helped the Township Committee maintain a stable municipal tax rate for the past 12 years.
Bruce Blount, member of our Arts Council, would like to inform residents that its next meeting is at 8 p.m. Feb. 6, at Town Hall, 31 Main St. Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Arts Council is encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served.
A late fee of an additional $5 will be enforced March 1 for the purchase of 2002 dog licenses. Township Committeewoman Ada Roberts, our liaison to Senior Affairs, proposed and the committee approved a 50 percent discount reduction in local dog license fees for all senior citizens in Plumsted Township.
The next regularly scheduled meeting and citizen comment period with Township Committee members Ken Francis, Ada Roberts, Bonnie Quesnel and Deputy Mayor Joe Przywara is Feb. 11. Residents can preview our business agenda, to the extent known, 48 hours prior to the meeting on our Web site: www.plumsted.org.
Residents visiting our new library are encouraged to use the Township Committee’s suggestion box to inform us of your ideas and concerns. A personal one-on-one listening session with your mayor or committee member, is usually provided from 7 to 9 p.m. the first Wednesday of every month at the library, however, due to another meeting, the next session will be Feb. 13. The township’s Web site also features an e-mail link for residents to directly communicate with your mayor and committee and listen to your concerns on a daily basis.
