LAMBERTVILLE Nextel won’t be the next to build a cell tower in town.
The Board of Adjustment received a letter from that company Jan. 31 that withdrew its application to put a structure on the water tower at the Rago Gallery at 333 N. Main St.
The board was not informed of why Nextel decided to opt out of its plan.
Board Attorney William Shurts suggested the board accept the request as complete, saying he didn’t think there was anything behind it other than what it appeared to be a simple opting out.
"We should vote to accept it, but as bills come in (related to the project), we have to find funds," Board Chairman David Moraski said.
Board Secretary Chris Colt said Nextel’s escrow would be held until any bills associated with the project were paid.
The board recently approved a Sprint cell tower at the Lambertville-New Hope Ambulance and Rescue Squad. Other companies can use that tower and add to the revenues.
