LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood High School boys’ basketball team gained a share of the Shore Conference Class B South title last Friday night with a 48-43 win over visiting Monsignor Donovan, Toms River.
The Piners improved to 14-5 overall and 10-2 in the conference.
With the score knotted at 43-43 with just over a minute remaining, senior lead guard Dyquan Randolph completed a three-point play to give Lakewood the lead for good.
Randolph penetrated the lane and lofted a short jumper. He gathered his own rebound and was fouled on the putback. He sank the free throw and Lakewood led 46-43.
Following three missed three-point attempts by Monsignor Donovan, Randolph sank two more free throws with one second left for the final margin of victory.
Lakewood, the No. 5 seed in the Shore Conference Tournament, is scheduled to meet the winner of Holmdel (No. 12) or Rumson (21) Friday night at home in the Round of 16.
Junior swingman J.R. Smith paced Lakewood with 19 points and Adrian Edwards added 15 points, connecting on five three-pointers.
