MYRON VAN PELT, 83, of the Forked River section of Lacey Township, died Feb. 3 in Southern Ocean County Hospital, Manahawkin. He was a quality engineer with Bell Telephone, Newark, for 35 years before retiring in 1975. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Lacey Township Democratic Club. He ran for the Lacey Township Committee in 1997. He celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary on Dec. 27. Born in Keyport, he lived in Clifton before moving to Forked River in 1976. Surviving are his wife, Gertrude Van Pelt; two sons, Peter S. of Clermont, Fla. and Philip S. of Forked River; five daughters, Linda M. Cellini of Forked River, Ellen L. Van Pelt of Pinckney, Mich., Mary A. Lapinski of Jackson, Clare M. Stevenson of Forked River and Carol A. Knipple of the Lanoka Harbor section of Lacey; a sister, Beryl Hoglund of Connecticut; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Pius X chapel, Forked River. Interment was in Brigadier Gen. William C. Doyle New Jersey Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown. Memorial donations may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church Building Fund or the charity of your choice.

KARLEEN MARY LOWING, 61, of Lorimor, Iowa, formerly of Jackson, died Jan. 30 in Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa, from complications of a stroke. Ms. Lowing was born in Milwaukee, Wisc. In 1963 she married Bruce Sheridan Lowing in Houghton, Mich. Before moving to Lorimor in 2001, she lived in Milwaukee; Houghton, Mich.; Jackson; and Taylor Ridge, Ill. She was a kindergarten teacher and homemaker. She received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Madison. She enjoyed storytelling and crafts – spinning, knitting and making teddy bears. She was predeceased by her husband, Bruce. Surviving are a son, John of Davenport, Iowa; two daughters, Heather Moreno of Carbondale, Ill., and Holly Frosch of Lorimor, Iowa; two grandchildren; her parents, Ralph and Mary Schacherl; three brothers, David, Ralph and John Schacherl; a sister Laurel Malicki; her in-laws, Hugh and Nancy Lowing, several brothers and sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. Interment was in Georgetown Township Cemetery, Georgetown Township, Mich. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

ANNA M. LUKASCZYK GADZIALA, 81, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died Jan. 31 in St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Her husband, Stephen Gadziala, died in 1975. Surviving are five sons, Stephen Gadziala of Middletown, Michael Gadziala of Howell, Peter Gadziala and Thomas Gadziala, both of East Brunswick, and Daniel Gadziala of North Brunswick; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Bartholomew’s Church, East Brunswick.

IRENE ZBRANAK, 76, of Lakewood, formerly of Manalapan, died Feb. 3 at home. Mrs. Zbranak was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Manalapan before moving to Lakewood three years ago. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America and past president of the St. Rose of Lima Rosary Altar Society, Freehold. Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Steven; a daughter and son-in-law, Joana and Geoffrey Zbranak-Bailey of Sea Bright; two sons, Stephen of Manalapan, and Robert of Brick; and four grandchildren. A Mass was offered at Holy Family Church, Lakewood. Interment was in Woodbridge Memorial Park, Woodbridge.

BETTY LOU LIOY, 69, of Jackson, died Feb. 4 in Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. Mrs. Lioy was born in Conoga, Calif., and lived in Pennsylvania and Long Branch before moving to Jackson 40 years ago. She is survived by her husband, John Lioy of Jackson; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Patricia Lioy of Hammonton, and Danny and Marsha Lioy of Salem, Ore.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Ann and Roger Boyd of Arizona, Theresa Ann and Martin Martin of Massachusetts, and Annette Marie and Russell Rogers of Jackson; and six grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Veronica’s Church, Howell. A private cremation followed.
