Committeeman Greg Overstreet has decided that one term on the Township Committee is enough.
In a letter to The Cranbury Press, Mr. Overstreet, a Democrat, said he does not plan to run for re-election when his three-year term expires at the end of 2002.
Mr. Overstreet would not say why he would not run for a second term on the committee.
"While I will continue to enjoy performing the duties of office until my term ends in December, I am not ready to commit to an additional three-year term," said Mr. Overstreet in his letter.
Mr. Overstreet said he hopes that by making this announcement now, others will file as candidates in April. Primary elections are in June.
Mr. Overstreet is the only committee member whose term will expire at the end of 2002.
He was elected to the committee in 1999 when he defeated Republican incumbent Wayne Wittman, who was mayor at that time.
A resident of Cranbury for about 15 years, Mr. Overstreet served as the committee’s liaison to the Cranbury Business and Professional Association, First Aid Squad and Office of Emergency Management.
He is an active member of the Lions Club, Cranbury Historical and Preservation Society and the Friends of the Cranbury Public Library.
Prior to his years on the committee, Mr. Overstreet served as curator of the Cranbury Museum and sat on the Township Zoning Board of Adjustment and the Village Revitalization Committee.
