Louis H. Draper, 66, died Monday, Feb. 18, at Capital Health System at Mercer hospital, Trenton.
Born in Richmond, Va., he was a longtime Lawrence resident.
He attended Virginia State College and received a master’s degree in fine arts from New York University in 1970. He was a professor at Mercer County Community College and coordinator of the photography program.
He won the Distinguished Teacher Award at Mercer and had done shows at Stockton State College, The Peddie School and The Lawrenceville School.
In 1989, he was part of the Trenton Artists Workshop Association, which traveled to Moscow to exhibit works. His photos were published in Essence, Popular Photography Annual and Avon Books. In 1962, he founded Kamoinge Workshop, a group of black photographers who presented exhibitions depicting black life.
Son of the late Hansel and Dorothy Taylor-Draper, he is survived by a sister, Nell Winston of Richmond; a godson, Brandon Gloster; and a special friend, Dorothy Gloster of New York.
There will be a memorial service will be noon Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Kelsey Theatre, Mercer County Community College, West Windsor Campus.
The funeral will be in Richmond.
Burial will be in Forrest Lawn Memorial Park, Richmond.
