George Schimandle

   Army Major (ret.) George H. Schimandle, 75, died Thursday, Feb. 14, at St. Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick.
   Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he came to Kendall Park in 1970.
   He retired in 1970 as a major in the Army after 20 years of service. He served in the Korean War, in Japan, and in the Vietnam War. Among his commendations are the Korean Service Medal and four Bronze Service Stars. After retirement, he became the safety director at the Veterans Administration Hospital in East Orange. He was a member of The Retired Officers Association. He also was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9111 in Kendall Park and American Legion Post 401 in Monmouth Junction.
   Surviving are his wife, Mary J. Macaro Schimandle; a son and his wife, Dr. Jeffrey and Rebecca Schimandle of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Kim Schimandle of Plainsboro and Lisa O’Brien of South Brunswick and five grandchildren, Casey, Shannon and Kelly O’Brien and Katie and Lauren Schimandle.
   Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Selover Funeral Home in North Brunswick. Burial followed at Princeton Memorial Park in Robbinsville.
