Residents supported 2002 fire budgets at Saturday’s fire elections.
In District 1, residents voted 41-6 in favor of a $661,084 budget, which calls for $527,584 to be raised through taxes.
That translates to a tax rate of 5.8 cents per $100 of assessed valuation, down 1 cent from last year. For the owner of a house assessed at the township average of $185,000, the fire tax would be $107.30.
Richard Kish received 46 votes and Kevin Clark received 41 and both were elected to positions on the Board of Commissioners.
In District 2, residents voted 38-0 to back a $1,752,512 budget, with $627,000 to be raised through taxes.
The tax rate under the budget would be 3 cents per $100 of assessed valuation, which is unchanged from last year. For the owner of a house valued at the township average of $185,000, the fire tax would be $55.50.
Charles Smith received 38 votes and won a three-year seat on the Board of Commissioners. Jim Shipmenn received 35 votes to win a one-year term.
In District 3, residents voted 28-4 to back a $459,043 budget, with $325,000 to be raised through taxes in South Brunswick and $12,133 to be raised through taxation in Franklin Township, which the district also serves.
The tax rate under the budget is 4.5 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. The rate is down from 4.9 cents last year. For the owner of a house assessed at the township average of $185,000, the fire tax would be $83.25.
Norman Luck garnered 27 votes and Charles Holmes garnered 15 to win two, three-years seats on the Board of Commissioners. District 3 was the only district to receive write-in votes for the board. Warren Monroe finished two behind Mr. Holmes with 13 write-in votes. James Mitchell and Paul Conover received one vote each.
