As a new resident of Millstone Township, I am hoping, along with other newcomers and long-term residents, that the current controversy involving our local elected officials and community leaders will soon become a distant memory. That can happen only with true and magnanimous leadership. If it does not happen, our political environment will continue to become more divisive and destructive.
This is a very critical time in the development of our township. The decisions made today will have long-range implications for us. I urge my fellow residents to get in touch with our leaders in person, through this column or any other means possible, to convey a strong message to them that they have to find a way to put this controversy behind them.
Perhaps, they could meet face-to-face, away from emotional crowds. Can they do it? Somehow, they need to have the courage and courtesy to show respect toward each other and place their emphasis on the future of the township. If any one of them has the audacity to take on this challenge, the others will follow.
We all recognize the great job that past and current mayors and members of the Township Committee have done. We also appreciate the interest and effort of individuals seeking to enter the public service arena. Let us not allow the talents to be wasted. Let us build a better township together.
