Melanie Blasenheim, director and owner of East Brunswick Academy of Music, will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of MOMTalk, a support group for mothers (or fathers) with young children, set for 10 a.m. on Feb. 26 at East Brunswick Congregational Church, 402 New Brunswick Ave.
The discussion will begin at 10:30 a.m. Blasenheim will speak on the benefits of music for young children, how to introduce children to music and how to identify a child’s music IQ or musical talent.
The group, which meets from 10 a.m. to noon every Tuesday at the church, offers adult interaction in a drop-in format. Parents may come with their children for any amount of the two-hour period. Moms (or dads) talk to other adults while their children play in the same carpeted room.
The group’s mission is to offer a place and time for parents to connect, support, educate and empower each other and to provide resources and services to the community.

Members and their children will "Build a Barn" at 10 a.m. on March 5 at the New Jersey Museum of Agriculture, North Brunswick. The museum has joined forces with the National Kids Construction Club for an interactive building experience. The exhibition combines six hands-on activities as well as a partially finished model barn that the group will help complete.
