League submits field application
Plans are now officially underway to approve the Hillsborough Little League’s challenger baseball diamond at the Willow Road baseball complex.
Although the diamond itself has been leveled and a home base installed, the Little League is seeking to receive official approval from the township to install bleachers, a backstop, benches and fencing for the field.
Officials with the Hillsborough Little League presented plans for the field to the township’s Parks Commission last week and the commission is reviewing the league’s plans. The commission is expected to make a recommendation to the Township Committee on what action to take regarding the proposed field prior to the committee’s Feb. 26 meeting.
The committee is expecting to take action on the field at that meeting.
Bill Gold, president of the Hillsborough Little League, indicated that the new field is in the southernmost end of the complex and will be designated for use by the league’s disabled children and five- and six-year olds for instructional purposes. The field, which will be 100 feet from home plate to the fences, is 100 feet shorter than standard Little League diamonds, will be comprised mainly of dirt.
State progresses on Bypass project
The state Department of Transportation plans to demolish three or four homes in the area of Township Line and Amwell roads to pave the way for the Route 206 bypass.
The demolition of the homes is not expected to take place until sometime next year, and the DOT is now in the process of accepting bids for the demolition job, according to DOT spokesman Jim Hadden.
Mr. Hadden said he believes that the project will involve the removal of asbestos from the condemned property because some of the homes may have had asbestos siding.
