Albert Nevruz, 69, died Tuesday, March 12.
Born in Russia, he came to the United States during the 1960s. He lived in Lawrence since 1979, moving here from Virginia.
He received a master’s degree in electrical engineering from North Carolina State University and worked 38 years in research and development with Union Camp Corp. in Virginia and New Jersey. He was awarded a patent for his invention of the recovery boiler leak detection program, a software-based system that quickly detects leaks in recovery boilers during the paper-making process. Following his retirement, he was a consultant to several international pulp and paper corporations.
Mr. Nevruz wrote a biography about his father, who fled communist Russia in the 1940s. At the time of his death, he was working on an autobiography.
He enjoyed inventing and solving mathematical puzzles and had compiled more than 200 original creations. He also enjoyed writing short stories, painting, playing chess and writing computer programs. He greatly enjoyed spending time with family.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Rose; two daughters, Erica Bartman of New York and Jassemine Narlis of Howell; two sons, Bob and Bill, both of Chicago; and two grandsons, Henry and Finn of New York.
