Great Strides walk to benefit fight against cystic fibrosis

The Greater New Jersey Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will hold the Great Strides Walk to Cure Cystic Fibrosis on Sunday, April 21, at noon at the Princeton Battlefield on Mercer Road.
The Princeton-area community will gather for the sixth time for the easy walk, which is designed to raise awareness and funds to defeat cystic fibrosis, the No. 1 genetic killer of children and young adults. The funds raised by the walk around the Battlefield and through the Institute Woods will all be used to fund research to treat and cure this fatal disease.
The generosity of the Princeton, Lawrenceville, Hamilton, Montgomery, West Windsor, Hopewell, Pennington and Trenton communities has been demonstrated by the increase in attendance and donations. In 1996, 50 people helped to raise $5,000. In 2001, more than 500 helped to raise $113,000.
The event will include music from NJ101.5, prizes, t-shirts and food from Richard’s Farm Market. Kale’s Nursery will donate a rose bush to those who make a $65 donation. The connection to roses comes from the fact that young children with cystic fibrosis often pronounce their ailment as "sixty-five roses."
